State-of-the-Art Training Laboratory:
The state-of-the-art lab facility having 2000 sq. ft. working area was equipped with basic to
modern sophisticated instruments to train research students and faculty from other Institutions. A
diesel generator having the capacity of 125 KVA was installed to the state-of-the-art lab to provide
uninterrupted power supply.
Cell Culture Laboratory
Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory
A separate plant tissue culture lab was established with automated photo period settings.
Animal cell culture lab facility with Biological safety level II (BSL-II) standard as per the
guidelines and regulations of Institutional biosafety committee has been established.
Bioinformatics / Computational Laboratory
A dedicated Bioinformatics lab was established with 20 high end work stations connected with
Unix/Linux servers through local intranet. The main objective of the computational lab is to train the
participants with the computational aspects of genomics and proteomics. A dedicated HP-Blade
server was acquired and NRCBS website hosted (www.nrcbsmku.org).
The existing library was upgraded with basic infrastructure and scientific contents by
subscribing recent books and journals (Print and Online version) of leading publishers. Currently,
NRCBS centre subscribed leading scientific journals like Nature, Nature biotechnology, Nature
Genetics, etc., and e-publications are provided to the participants through UGC-INFLIBNET access.
A lecture hall to accommodate 60 participants/visitors with all modern audio and video facilities
like LCD projector, video screens, Interactive board, video conferencing and computers with internet
facility etc., was established.
UGC-NRCBS is connected with the 1 GBPS internet connectivity through the lease
line provided by the (NIC) BSNL. Access to the internet is provided to all the participants, students, M.Sc.,
Ph.D. Scholars and visiting fellows through the secured UGC-NRCBS wireless network.
Research Trainee Hostel Facility
Dr. (Mrs.) Kalyani Mathivanan, Vice-Chancellor, Madurai Kamaraj University laid the
foundation stone for the UGC-NRCBS Research Trainees Hostel in the cam pus on 15.03.2013.
NRCBS Research Trainees Hostel was inaugurated by the Excellency Governor of Tamilnadu Dr. K.
Rosaiah on 28.10.2014 and the occasion was graced by Honorable Tamil Nadu Education Minister
Thiru. P. Palaniappan. Vice Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University Col. Dr. (Mrs.) Kalyani
